Grænafell is a 581-meter high mountain located a few kilometers west of Reyðarfjörður. There is a spacious parking lot and a direction sign at the base, making the ascent not challenging and suitable for energetic children. This makes it more of a family outing than a sporting feat. The path is marked, and along the way, you will cross several streams, with many areas having a very soft surface, especially around Lake Grænavatn, which the path circles. The summit of Mount Grænafell is vast and quite flat. It’s difficult to pinpoint the highest point just by looking.
